Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions, Answered

FAQ: FAQ

How should I prepare for my first treatment?

Once you book your first treatment we will send you written instructions. These will be sent via email or Facebook messenger. Please make sure we can contact you using one of these methods.
Your therapist will shower before every treatment and we request that you do the same where possible. This is important given the current pandemic.
You will be asked to complete a Health Questionnaire which will give us information to allow an appropriate treatment to be given.

What should I expect from my first session?

You will have a consultation with your therapist who will review your health questionnaire and ask for further details where necessary.
Generally, the first treatment is exploratory to understand your areas of pain and or discomfort and the pressure you are able to tolerate. It is common to receive feedback that "you could have pushed harder" and we would on a subsequent treatment.
If you are new to massage or have not had a treatment for a while you may experience some contra-actions afterwards.
It is not uncommon to experience muscle soreness a day or two after your massage treatment. The soreness is a result of direct contact with spasms in the muscle, as well as accumulated waste products in the tissue being naturally released into your system. This is similar to what many people experience after strenuous activity. Other possible effects include.
Redness on the skin in areas treated.
Increased bowel movements/urination for around 12 hours.
"Healing Crisis" ranging from mild headache to flu like symptoms. Not many will experience this but it is a result of the massage removing toxins from the body. It should only last 12-24 hours.

Do you help treat chronic conditions?

We have a number of clients with chronic conditions. These include ME (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), Fibromyalgia, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Sciatica and other muscle pain.
Clients are all different and respond to treatments at different rates. However, we have had some wonderful examples of how chronic conditions improve with a course of treatment.

What precautions should I take following a treatment?

It is advisable to drink plenty of water after a treatment to help flush through the waste products. We ask clients to bring their own water bottle with them.
You should avoid heavy meals, avoid strenuous exercise and it is advisable to avoid alcohol on the day of the treatment.
We also recommend that you rest & relax after the treatment.

What if I am running late for my appointment?

Please contact us ASAP and let us know if you are running late and how late you expect to be. It may still be possible to treat you but there is a possibility that the appointment may have to be rescheduled.

Can I present a treatment as a gift to a friend or relative?

Yes, we are able to provide gift certificates that can be redeemed against a treatment or you can specify what treatment you wish to gift to someone.
